PRAYING AND WATCHING – A NEW TAKE
About the St Jame’s Way Bible placement project
A new film has been released this month in England about the St. Jame’s Way pilgrimage that covers almost 500 miles from the Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela, where according to legend the Apostle James is buried.
The story of the film is centered around an American who receives a phone call informing him that his son has died while walking the Way.
So he decides to walk it himself and take his son`s ashes with him, so his son can finish it too.
The Gideons International in Spain had a special project to place Scriptures in the hostals for pilgrims along the route of 31 stages. In these places, usually owned by the Catholic church, the local municipality or individual proprietors, they sleep in bunk beds in dormitories for a modest price. Most of these hostals have a bookshelf or library where the pilgrims can rest and read the books available.
Of the more than 240 hostals on the Way, visited since April 2008, the great majority of them accepted bilingual and trilingual copies of the Word of God to be left for the pilgrims and happy to know that it was a customer service that was free! In fact, there were only 15 actual rejections. Praise the Lord!
In April 2011, on the last two stages, 32 hostals were visited during 3 days of unusually intense heat in Galicia, which reached daytime temperatures of over 32°C.
The reception was as good, if not better than any other stages of the route.
The Gideons have sown the precious seed and ask others to join them in watering it with prayers so that the Word will bring forth fruit, and glory to the Lord’s Name. In Gideon files of testimonies, as some of them comment that the book on the shelf said to the writer, “Read me, read me.” They did just that, and while reading the Gideon Bible, the Holy Spirit convicted them of their need of a Saviour.
So if you go to see the film, as you watch it, offer up a prayer as you see the hostals and the pilgrims. Maybe they will also hear a still small voice saying, “Read me, read me.”, and because of it, they will come to know Jesus, the one who said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.” John 14:6.
