Thursday 17th May, Bible reading: James 5 vv 13-18
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit.

SPAIN:

We give thanks to You, Lord, that our friend Sue M is now improved and out of hospital after an operation. We now ask that You strengthen her and restore her to full health.

It is quite encouraging to hear of another new prayer initiative, “Pray for the Costas” which has a vision for prayer for the Costa Blanca and Costa Calida area. We have been praying that others will seek the Lord’s will in prayer, so this is another answer to our prayers.
Lord, we pray that this new group will come together in Your Name and seek Your will for their area of Spain. You have told us in your scripture above that our faithful prayers are powerful, so we ask that they will be blessed and bless others through that ministry.
We ask that you continue to use prayersharers for Your purpose, as we seek to pray in line with Your will. Amen.

Sudan:

There is an article HERE from Christian Today which asks for Christians to pray for the situation in Sudan. Prayers for peace, in a country which has been racked by war and genocide, now split into two countries as part of a peace settlement – now returning to war, once again.
Our Heavenly Father we pray for the situation in Sudan and South Sudan where war is bringing misery. We ask You to restore peace here, so that people can return to their homes. We pray that their communities will hold strongly onto faith in Christ and pray for so many people who are sick. We pray that You will bring peacemakers to the region who will act honourably to restore the peace.

Israel:

According to a BBC poll, the country of Israel is considered the most negative country in the world bar Iran and Pakistan. No mention of North Korea or Zimbabwe! The BBC have peddled these views for years having been anti-Israel, and is just another player in the scenario of all nations turning against Israel. (Zechariah 14)
Father, we support Your nation of Israel in prayer, praying for the people, government and for their protection and ultimate salvation according to Your Will. Protect them from their physical and spiritual enemies and uphold them by Your Power and Spirit.

Thursday 10th May 2012, Bible reading: Matthew 24 vv 42-44
Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

SPAIN:

We lift up our sister in the Lord, Sue M as she has been in hospital after suffering a serious stomach bug.
Heavenly Father, we pray for Sue, we ask that you heal her body completely and return her to full health. Be with Keith and give him peace and bless them both, as they seek to serve You.

May 11th marks 1 year since the Lorca earthquake which killed 10 people and made many more destitute and homeless. Although Spain is a prosperous country and has received support from the EU, reports suggest that as many as 2,000 people are still living in portacabins and similar temporary accomodation on playing fields. We felt the earthquake here, where we live, and it reminded us of the scripture above, which relates to the end times. None of us know the day or hour…

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the blessings of living in a peaceful country, where there is freedom of travel, freedom of religion and plenty of food and fuel. We realise that we are blessed, whilst understanding that circumstances can change quickly. We watch and pray, Lord, whilst doing our best to stay in Your will. We pray for this Nation, especially this week for those in Lorca. We pray that those still homeless, will be re-homed. For those affected – for recovery, for their peace, and above all for their salvation, through Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen

There was quite a remarkable development this week when B. Netanyahu first called an election, then actually called it off after forming a very wide coalition of most parties in the government. This unity government is a feature of strength for Israel in a time of ever increasing threats from the Islamification of surrounding countries, after the “so-called” Arab Spring.

Dear Heavenly Father, we are so often amazed by how You act, so often surprising us with the way You work against all the odds, bringing together all things for Your purposes. We thank You Lord that You can see the whole picture, from beginning to end. We pray for the protection of Your people, in Israel, also for the Peace of Jerusalem. May all be saved according to Your perfect will. Amen

SPAIN:

Paul exhorts us to “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything giving thanks”
(1 Thess 5:16-18)
This is an easy instruction to follow when things are going well, but perhaps more difficult, when they are not. Only in the last week since our last prayer update, the economic news about Spain has only continued to get worse.
So we do as we are commanded and pray and give thanks, that despite all the news about the physical – gloom about the economy, we have a great God, who is our provider, who loves us and watches over us in our times of joy, as in our times of need.

Heavenly Father – We give thanks to You for this great country of Spain and we love the people who live here. We thank You that You continue to provide in our times of need. We pray that people will work together to minimise the effects of this crisis and that You will restore what is broken in our society. Father we ask that people will seek Your face, find the Love and Provision of Jehovah, Jireh – the supplier of our needs.
We also pray for our friend, Sue, who is suffering from stomach problems, and pray that you will quickly restore her to full health, to enable her to continue to serve You with her music.
Amen.

Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.”

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us day by day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins,
For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.

SPAIN:

Currently, looking through the news from Spain could be a depressing prospect. However, that is only looking at the physical and the financial, the ways of man in a country seriously harmed by the economic recession.
However, in 2 Corinthians Paul wrote:
(While) We do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. Therefore, as Christians we must look to that which is unseen. Those unseen things are Love, faith, hope, joy, peace, gentleness, kindness, goodness and the eternal life through Jesus Christ our Saviour. God has an eternal purpose for us, which is enabled through His Son Jesus Christ. He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

Loving Heavenly Father, as we cast our eyes over this nation of Spain, we look to the unseen. We pray that You will show mercy to us in our hours of difficulty, we pray for an increase in your Kingdom, as You build Your church – that people will seek Your face, and find You as their source of good and unseen things. Father, help us to look for and share those unseen things, which are all good and come from You, by the power given by Your Spirit. Hear our prayers and bless us, Lord. In Jesus Name – Amen.

For what thanks can we render to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your sake before our God, night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face and perfect what is lacking in your faith? … And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love to one another and to all, just as we do to you, so that He may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints.

SPAIN:

Economic pressure continues upon Portugal, Spain, Italy and Greece. Spain has yet to request assistance, but continues with austerity measures. Businesses here in Almería are struggling, many have closed down. Jobs are very scarce.
In Andalucia, the recent election was won by the PP (centre right) but the two opposing parties (PSOE – left, and Izquierda Unida – extreme left) are making a pact to rule. This means that many in the electorate will feel cheated as the majority party will be sidelined.

Heavenly Father, You know all that goes on in this country in politics, from the Town Halls, to the provinces to the Juntas and up to the Congreso de los Diputados in Madrid. Lord, You know their ways. Father we pray that You will step in to ensure that those elected in all levels of government act in the best interests of those that they represent. We pray that they will act selflessly, to restore the economy, creating jobs and removing corruption from all areas. Father, we know that this seems difficult to us, but we ask You knowing that all things are possible with You. We know that the prayer of the faithful is effective and that you hear each and every one of our requests. Amen

Having the verses from today’s bible reading in mind – we continue to remember all the fellowships and Christians meeting in Spain.

Loving Heavenly Father, we raise up to You all the Christians in Spain, asking that You will give them authority and power to preach your Word, by the power of your Holy Spirit within each and every one. May they be well organised workers for the Kingdom, being effective, working together in faith and producing good fruit. Amen

Israel’s major enemy, Iran, has offered talks with other world leaders which have been adjourned until May 23rd which gives Iran more and more time to continue their covert nuclear plans.

Prayer from Psalms 83:
O my God, make them like the whirling dust,
Like the chaff before the wind!
As the fire burns the woods,
And as the flame sets the mountains on fire,
So pursue them with Your tempest,
And frighten them with Your storm.
Fill their faces with shame,
That they may seek Your name, O Lord.
Let them be confounded and dismayed forever;
Yes, let them be put to shame and perish,
That they may know that You,
whose name alone is the Lord,
Are the Most High over all the earth. Amen.

Thursday 12th April, Bible reading: 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 Eternal hope.
“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”

When we consider the state of this World, which resembles the end of times which Jesus spoke of in the “Olivet” sermon in Matthew 24 and 25, we have to look to the hope that is in Him – Christ our Saviour. What is more, the need to tell others about this Hope intensifies as those signs appear.

Loving Heavenly Father, we thank You that You have a plan for us and for our future. We thank you that you have already separated the beginning from the end, all of which was planned in detail before time began. What a wondrous God You are, we praise Your Holy Name. Build Your church, lord and help us to serve using the methods you want us to use – and in the place that YOU want us be. Not by might, nor by power – only by Your Holy Spirit. Amen!

SPAIN:

While considering prayer points for Spain, we considered the government, the housing situation, corruption and the economy – which we have each covered in recent weeks. However, the government is still in need of our prayers as it announces extra cuts of €20 BILLION to attempt to balance the budget at the insistence of their masters in Brussels. These cuts are from health and education budgets.
The fear amongst many is that the people of Spain will become restless, as they see the injustices and inequalities between the politicians and those they are elected to serve. So we bring this subject before our Lord once again.

Heavenly Father, we bring this wonderful country of Spain before You, asking that you bless those in charge and bless the people living here. We pray that you will give the politicians wisdom to take the right steps in the interests of all that live here. People need jobs, not just for the money, but for their self-worth and self-respect. Father, we pray for peace, common-sense and courage to take the necessary decisions to repair the problems we have created for ourselves. Forgive us, Lord, for our greed, our self-interest and lack of respect of Your commandments. Show your mercy and love, in Jesus Name – Amen.

Luke 6: 30-31:
Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.

Iran

Yesterday was Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani’s 35th birthday – which he spent locked up in prison in Iran. There is no religious freedom in this country. Youcef has been sentenced to death by the Iranian courts for failing to renounce his Christian Faith.
Christians around the world have been praying for Youcef.

Heavenly Father, once again we bring persecuted brothers and sisters before your throne in prayer. We pray that they will be strengthened in faith, comforted by your Holy Spirit and empowered to proclaim your Saving Grace, whatever their circumstances. How humbling to see how our brother Youcef, our sister Asia Bibi and many others around the world bravely stand up for their faith under fear of imprisonment, physical attack and even death. Father, we thank You for their example and pray for justice for them and their return to their families, where they should rightly be. Amen.
